Polio has no cure but treatments and prevention. These are the most common treatments patients use:
-Rest
-Painkillers for headaches, muscle aches and muscle spasms
-Antibiotics for urinary tract infection
-Convenient ventilators for patients who struggle with breathing
-Physical therapy for walking, pain in muscles, breathing, lung problems
-Warm towels/hot pads for muscles that are aching or having spasms
For patients with legs problems that are more advance than others, would use a wheel chair or a portable device.

Prevention
The best way to avoid Polio is to get a vaccination. There are two types of medicine:
Inactivated Poliovirus Vaccine (IPV) is inserted into the leg or arm based on the age. The vaccine may or may not be injected along with other antidotes. This vaccine is commonly used in and out of the US. Oral Poliovirus Vaccine (OPV) is a serum that is taken by mouth instead of an injection. This type of treatment is used more frequently outside of the US. |
